I rarely watch a video game trailer more than once. Yet with Bungie’s marathon Reboot/sequel/whatever, I found myself duplicating the sleek and stylish trailer. Not only is this slapped with the trailer, but Bungie seems to be teasing it is one of the coolest shooters released in years.
On March 24, shortly before A.I Spider-Man 2 The trailer will launchbubbleBungie (Halo fate) revealed it The next great first-person shooter: marathon. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because this is actually Bungie harking back to one of its oldest franchises, the Mac-only shooter trilogy, marathon. You can read more about those ancient games, their beloved traditions, and how they relate to them Hello Modern shooting games This piece is from Claire Jackson.
However, I’m not here to talk about it marathonLore, history, fandom, or anything related to the Bungie mythos. No, instead I just want to gush for a few paragraphs about how the look and advertising of this damn cool game compares to most other shooters and games out there today. And it didn’t seem like I was alone in love with this trailer since it has already reached 18 million views on YouTube.
marathon It has one of the best gaming ads of 2023
from the moment Trailer’s intense electronic music kicks off at the beginning, I was engaged. Then we see someone in a sci-fi costume that looks like a rad run through a tunnel, all while shots of lifelike robot bugs create complex android-like creatures. what’s happening here? I don’t know, But did you just hear that sick piece in the music?
Anyway, the daring character breaks out of the dark tunnels and into an incredibly bright world where we see him also rock vibrant colors, including a neon pink helmet. The music picks up as the camera zooms in on the runner. Things get tense as the music turns to digital chaos and then BAM! That’s all I wrote for this runner as they were snapped off from afar by a slick, paper-white android. Our runner, now dead, is seen collapsing in slow motion into what appears to be a milk-like substance, their granular blue blood mixing and swirling in the water around their corpse. As the robot sniper rips something off the dead runner, the music builds up again, breaks down, and it just goes! Bungie reveals that this vibrant trailer was for a new car marathon.
“Vibrant” is really the key word here. Everything about this trailer pops in a way I haven’t seen in most other shooters released in recent years. A lot of modern shooters seem to focus on realism, which can look nice, but is also a bit lacklustre. The popular color scheme we usually see on shooters is also starting to make shooters love Call of duty And battlefield mix together. Or they are all a lot alike fortnite, which although colorful, is not visually distinguishable anymore. I enjoy a lot of these shooting games regardless. but with marathonthe stuff is different.
In fact, it is not colored. that it barely Glowing in all their pinks, yellows, greens and blues that pop in almost every frame. However, all of this is balanced by ultra-realistic lighting, materials, fixtures, and models. It’s unbelievable to look at the color palettes and little of us Kotaku I couldn’t stop staring at the trailer.
marathonThe new art style is fresh and bold
Bungie calls marathon‘s “Graphic Realism” art style, as mentioned in a recent behind-the-scenes video about the rebooted shooter. Bungie dev Emily Katske goes into more detail about the game’s art, saying it’s “bold, colorful [and] stylized. “
Also said in the same video, the game’s director, Christopher Barrett, said the team wanted the art to be “beautiful”, “lively”, “mysterious”, “familiar”, “but also eerie”.
I usually roll my eyes a bit at this kind of talk, but after seeing the trailer and concept art for this new show marathonYes, I got it. Balance is key, though. Bungie must carefully balance when and where to “connect.” [things] Up to 11 inches and when they set back a bit so people don’t get confused trying to play.
It’s a risky choice, taking a beloved franchise and remaking it into something bold. It’s also quite a departure from the original marathon Games, which feature more subdued or dirty textures and deathLike goblins. I’ve already spotted some long time ago marathon Fans were blown away by this new, more colorful and stylish trend. And until we actually play the last game, we won’t know if any of this will actually work. Was this a huge and costly mistake? Or a huge gamble that lands perfectly? No idea!
but marathon The trailer, concept art, and overall style made me more excited than I ever expected to play this upcoming shooter. I am not a fan of this kind of online FPS games, but I want to see more of them marathon So hard that I’ll give it a shot. As long as I can wander around Bungie’s amazing new world for a few minutes before getting killed, I’ll be happy to play and explore marathon whenever he goes out.
