Target calls for approximately 5 million threshold lumens due to cracking causing tearing and burning

MINNEAPOLIS—The target calls for approximately five million candles that can break during combustion, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The government agency issued the alert Thursday for Target’s Brand Threshold candles.

About 4.9 million candles have been recalled because items can break, burn and burn.

Target has received over 100 reports of candles cracking during use. The company says six injuries have been reported, including serious lacerations and burns.

The candles were sold nationwide at Target stores from August 2019 through March 2023 — generally costing between $3 and $20.

“Consumers should immediately stop using recalled candles and return them to any Target store for a full refund, or contact Target to receive a prepaid return label to return the candles by mail,” according to the CPSC alert.

The recall is specifically for Threshold Glass Jar Candles 5.5 ounce single wick, 14 ounce three wick and 20 ounce three wick candles in multiple scents.

Returned item numbers are printed on the bottom of the glass candle jars. According to the CPSC, item numbers include:
