After 17 years, New Berlin’s StoneFire Pizza Co. has decided to close its doors permanently. On Tuesday morning, an unexpected ad was posted on the StoneFire Pizza Co. website. “It is with great sadness and regret that after 17 years of serving the New Berlin/Milwaukee community, we are permanently closing our doors,” the announcement reads in part. Employees told 12 News that they learned of the closure on Sunday. “The managers seemed a little frustrated, and the owner showed up last week, which didn’t happen because he’s out in California, and the last day he was here, we found out they were closing, and that’s it,” Jay Sadowski said. Sadosky has worked at StoneFire Pizza Co. for the past three years and was shocked to learn on Sunday that he was out of a job. “I couldn’t believe it. I was such a mess,” he said. “We’ve all just lost a job. I mean quite a few of us are over 18, and now we’re out of work, and we don’t really know what to do with ourselves.” Employees were told the decline in sales contributed to the closure, and over the phone, the restaurateur told 12 News that the economy was partly to blame. Known for its pizza and games, the restaurant is a popular spot for birthday celebrations. 12 News was heard from parents who had birthday parties scheduled as soon as Tuesday through September.
